1. The meeting was called to order at 6:OOPM.
2. Minutes of the Recreation Commission Meeting from January 31, 2023.
Motion: By Ed Westhaver to approve the Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes
from January 31, 2023 as written. Seconded by Chris Leard.
Motion passes, 5-0.
3. Visitors:
6:05pm: Gretchen Shaughnessy, Matt Zajac, Liane Denham, John Brandt, Pamela Rieth and
Rosemary Wiseman, participants in the Mansfield Co -Op Garden program attended the
meeting to voice their concerns for improvements to the garden area and program. John
Brandt spoke on their behalf. They had concerns on limiting the number of plots one person
has and enforcing the guidelines that are handed out to each gardener at sign up. In addition,
Sherri Gurnon staled that she would arrange,a meeting time with DPW at the garden site with
John Brandt to address the maintenance concerns of the garden area.
4. Facilities:
-Sherri Gurnon informed the Recreation Commissioners of the Garden Club's request to
have their garden plot fee waived. They have Girls Scouts use the plot to put in a Pumpkin
Patch.
Motion: By Linda McCabe to approve the fee be waived for the Garden Club's
Community Garden Plot. Seconded by Ed Westhaver.
Motion passes, 5-0.
-Ms. Gurnon updated the Recreation Commissioners on the MHS Scoreboard. The School
Committee voted to not purchase a new scoreboard for the high school, therefore, the old
scoreboard will not be donated to the Parks and Recreation to be placed at Memorial Park.
6. New Business:
-Elections were held for 2023 Recreation Chairman and Clerk.
Motion: By Ed Westhaver to nominate Mitch Bregnard for another term as the
Recreation Commission Chairman. 'Seconded by Chris Leard.
Motion passes, 4-0-1,
Motion: By Ed Westhaver to nominate Linda McCabe for another term as the
Recreation Commission Clerk. Seconded by Chris Leard. Motion passes, 4-0-1.
-Sherri Gurnon apprised the Recreation Commissioners of the 2022 Program Financial
Review. They were given a copy of the financial statement of 2022.
-Ms. Gurnon notified the Commissioners of MYS request for fee -based Sunday permits. Mike
Weber stated that the Recreation Commissioners are not interested in allowing a fee -based
permit to MYS at this time.
-Sherri Gurnon stated that a self-service kayak rental company has been emailing her regarding
putting a kayak kiosk at Fultons Pond. Ed Westhaver asked that they send a package on bow it
works and the Recreation Commissioners would have it sent to Town Counsel to review. Mr.
Westhaver had concerns on how it is run and the liability around it because it is not monitored.
-Ms. Gurnon announced that the 02048_Egg Hunt is April I at 1 Oam if the Commissioners
interested in attending.
7. Next Commission Meetine: Tuesday, April 25, 2023 6:00 PM.
8. Motion: By Mike Weber to adjourn. Seconded by Chris Leard.
Motion Passes, 5-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:18PM.
