Executive Session Minutes for Tuesday, January 21,2020

The open meeting session was opened and called to order by Kiera O'Neil at 6:33 p.m.

Motion to enter Executive Session: Kiera O'Neil asked for a motion to enter into Executive Session
pursuant to M.G.L. Chapter 30A, Section 21 for the Following Purpose: Under Exception No. 3. To
discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining or litigation if an open meeting may have a
detrimental effect on the bargaining or litigating position of the public body and the chair so declares.

Principal Watkins and Superintendent Murphy reviewed a proposal at the high school to
introduce a flex block structure. This block of flex time twice per week is a directed -study
period where students work independently and collaboratively with peers during the school
day. During Flexblock, students will work to satisfy the 990 hours of time on learning, as
required by the state. Flexbock will be supervised by a rotating group of teachers opposite
common planning/self-directed planning time. Mary and Teresa provided details of the
program for the school committee to consider. This will first go through the negotiation
process.
Kiera O'Neil called for a motion to leave executive session and to return to open meeting.
