HomeMy WebLinkAboutSchool Comm. 07/21/2020Approved 11-10-20 Mansfield School Committee Meeting Executive Session Minutes for Tuesday, July 21, 2020 Remote via ZOOM The open meeting session was opened and called to order by Kiera O'Neil at 5:03 p.m. Members Present: Administration Present: Kiera O'Neil, Chair Teresa Murphy, Superintendent of Schools Lynn Cavicchi, Vice Chair Michael Connolly, Assistant Superintendent of Schools Linda Fernando Edward Donoghue, Assistant Superintendent of Schools Jenn Walsh Lauren Scher Members Absent: None Entered into Executive Session pursuant to M.G.L. Chapter 30A, Section 21 for the Following Purpose: Under Exception No. 3. To discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining or litigation if an open meeting may have a detrimental effect on the bargaining or litigating position of the public body and the chair so declares. There is a tentative agreement with the MEA. Superintendent Murphy is pleased with the results. The district needs to create the salary grid and then provide the MOU to the MEA for approval. Tomorrow we start negotiations with the MEA on our Return to School Plans. We have been advised by our attorneys to have a proposed plan in mind before we start negotiations. However, teachers want to have input into our plan. We will move forward with our first meeting. Our custodians have asked for a retirement incentive program similar to what we offered to teachers. The district supports this idea and will work towards an offer. Assistant Superintendent Donohue met with Town Manager Dumas and Assistant Town Manager LaCasse to review possible further cuts. What would our finances look like if we had to take another 10% cut in state funds? We have to be very cautious as we do not know what the summer will bring and how deep the state will cut. However, so far we are in stable shape. Our last quarter was better than expected. There were increased costs but there were many places we had savings since we were not in school. The Schools need to make sure the town understands that our budget is for level services. We believe there will be additional costs to take on due to COVID.
