Update on Boiler Projects
• Developing a "60 percent completion" document that incorporate changes after the schematic
design. There will be a meeting today at 3pm with Town Manager and Asst Town Manager. The
goal is to get this out to bid earlier given increases in cost estimates and the interest in providing
a more specific price in advance of town meeting. This will speed up the timeline a bit, but they
are ready. The plan would still be to do the project in summer 2023 but will be able to have
preconstruction meetings. Will know today at 3pm whether the town will agree with this
direction. New boilers will be much more efficient.
• Also, in next few weeks, the MSBA will be meeting, and we should get approval to move forward
with the QMS boiler project. At town meeting, we'll ask for funds for the schematic design.
Building Updates:
• By OSHA rule, you have to provide heat from Oct — May 15. We try to be ahead of the curve
because it has been getting cold. Had boilers checked to make sure everything is up and
running. There were a few minor issues that will get fixed within the next few weeks. But
everything is in good shape to be up and running. A bit challenging to regulate heat in some
classrooms this time of year. Facilities responds to teacher requests.
• Typical roof leaks with all of the recent rains. Roof is on the 5-year capital plan but can handle
minor issues as they occur.'
• Some vandalism in the first few weeks of the school year (e.g., water bottles in the toilet).
Usually this calms down and likely ramps up in spring.
• Unit ventilators are still on order. They were supposed to arrive in July. Might need to handle
installation in the off hours once they come in (unclear when that will be). The current
ventilators on tap for replacement are older, but operational.
Custodial Updates/Hires:
• Have a FT opening available and having a hard time filling this position. Tried reissuing the post
and getting it on INDEED.
• One custodian out on a long-term illness. Other custodians have been filling in plus there are
substitute custodians.
0 The new hires over the past six months appear to be doing pretty well.
Approved 03-02-23
• Getting ready for snow removal. Newer custodians are mandated so support snow removal.
Asking others to volunteer. Need to make sure we have people to operate the equipment.
Upcoming Agenda Items / Next Meeting Date
