Town of Mansfield
Board of Selectmen
Minutes of October 7, 2009
Present:
Chairman Baldwin, Vice Chairman Moran, Clerk Jess Aptowitz, Selectman
Dentino, Selectman Sandra Levine, Nick Riccio, Interim Town Manager
Absent:
Chairman Neil Rhein, Dave Kobasa, Cheryl Collins and Laureen House from the committee
are present.
Mr. Rhein gave a brief overview of what the Committee has done over the past year.
They have developed a website, newsletter and resident Karen Reagan developed a logo for
branding their committee.
Ms. Collins spoke about the project in which local landscapers are helping to keep
Mansfield beautiful. The Mansfield Garden Club has also adopted spots through out town
to aid in the beautifications efforts. Examples are in front of the library and rails to
trails sites.
The group has also been able to fundraise a bit with donations from Covidien, the Garden
Club and private citizens. They have bought new trash barrels for strategic places
through town in order to keep litter down.
Mr. Kobasa spoke about the litter busters program. DPW has been great in helping out but
they do need volunteers to continue with the efforts.
Ms. House also spoke briefly about the committee's fundraising efforts. The next big
fundraiser will be a March event. Donations are tax deductible.
2010 goals:
· Become a Keep America Beautiful affiliate
· The Great Clean Up in May
· Mansfield Green beautification project
· Increased recycling on school properties (bottles and cans)
· Project Green Schools
