Nursing Report for April 2009
4. Health Agent's Report
a. Community VNA - HealthCare Options contract: In a letter dated November 6, 2008,
HealthCare Options requested a 5% increase for July 1,2009 to June 30, 2010 bringing the
annual rate to $23,015. Scott told the board the contract will stay at the same rate as the
previous year without a reduction in services.
MOTION: TO APPROVE THE HEALTH CARE OPTIONS CONTRACT FOR
JULY 1,2009 TO JUNE 30, 2010
W ALL/DEGIROLAMO PASSED 3-0
b. HINl - Swine Flu: On June 11 th, WHO officially declared HINl a pandemic. The new
designation is the result of the global spread of the virus not the severity.
c. InovativeSpinal Technologies: The company has filed for bankruptcy. Bankruptcy papers
noted 9 cadavers along with biological samples and medical waste had been left in the
building. Scott was asked to investigate and found body parts, samples and medical waste;
all had been properly packaged and stored in freezers. The landlord has agreed to keep the
electricity to the building on. Scott has made arrangements for the proper disposal of the
human remains.
d. Complaint Investigation: All complaints must be in writing and signed by the complainant.
Scott told the board last March he received a call from the DEP Strike Force concerning
a complaint that effluent/washing machine water was being dumped into wetlands. Scott
investigated and found no violations. The person who complained was told he needed to
write a letter outlining the complaint. The letter was faxed without being signed. Upon
further investigation, Scott discovered a false name was given.
e. Scott told the board that all swimming pools in Mansfield have been inspected.
f. Health Fairs: The Health Fairs were held at Town Hall and the school; the fairs were not as
well attended as hoped; 26 people attended at Town Hall, with less than 50 attending at the
school.
Scott told the board the program will end June 30, 2009.
5. New Business
Scott reminded the board Town Meeting is scheduled for June 16th.
Catherine asked about meetings for the summer. Scott will let the board know if it is
necessary to have a meeting in July and August. The next scheduled meeting will be in
September.
