The issues of adding a "schools" section to the Master Plan, using the school
department's comprehensive plan and making it Chapter 10, was discussed. Another
option identified, in light of the fact that the second half or "how to" section of the
School's Comprehensive Plan remains to be finished, would be to include the plan as an
appendix.
Also discussed was preparation of an executive summary. Issues raised were who would
do it and what the costs would be. Mr. McShane suggested that each member of the
Master Plan Committee take a section and prepare a summary for release to the press, and
then compiling members' summaries into an executive summary for the Master Plan.
Discussed was the preparation of a 10 page handout as a report to Town Meeting Ways
to get the public involved in the process and the layout of the Master Plan document were
discussed at length.
Discussion of the Transportation section followed.
Motion: To add on page 19, last paragraph before "intermodal connections,"
Ken should insesrt a strong statement into the plan about the absolute need to provide
access to train station parking that does not go through residential neighborhoods and
there are potentially viable alternatives to provide and Town should close Draper Avenue
from parking area, thus insulating the neighborhood from commuter traffic.
(Sullivan -Flynn) Passes
A number of other changes were made, with discussion of the balance of the
Transportation section to be discussed at the next meeting.
