MEETING SUMMARY mASS1\C iU5ETTS
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM in the small conference room located in the
Mansfield Town Hall. The members present included Jay Barrows, Karl Clemmey, Dennis
Grady, Tom Prestwich, Ian MacDonald, Christopher Trombetta and Jack Vultaggio. Also
present were William F. Williams - Town Manager and Chris Marion - Assistant to the
Town Manager. Not present was John Larch - Electric Department Manager.
1. Meeting Summary
Tom Prestwich moved to accept the 4/29/96 Meeting Summary (Second - Jay Barrows).
2. Final Approvals
The Commission voted unanimously to approve the mission statement and the draft letter
to the Cabot Park businesses. The Commission also reviewed the survey questions and
made a few minor changes/additions.
3. New Business
A. The Commission briefly discussed setting up a budget, as discussed at the Board of
Selectmen meeting. Several members felt that a budget is not needed at this time. Further
specifics will be discussed at a future meeting.
B. Jay Barrows pointed out that some of the contact names in the Park had changed since
the list of businesses was completed. The IDC members agreed to call each of the
businesses on their individual lists to verify the contact names. All new information will be
forwarded to Chris Marion by 7/1/96 so he can update the business list and address the
letters to the proper contact persons at each company.
Once the letters are sent, each IDC member will make a follow up phone call, conduct the
brief survey by phone or in person, and bring the results back to the IDC for action.
In regards to the Master Plan Committee, Tom Prestwich and Jay Barrows were chosen to
attend the meetings related to economic development and report back to the IDC on any
action items.
C. The Commission also discussed various ways to target new businesses and attract
them to Mansfield. Bill Williams provided a list of companies from the Boston Globe and
Chris Marion suggested drafting a community summary sheet and an approach letter from

the IDC and BOS chairmen. Jay Barrows brought up the possibility of a Mansfield Web
Page on the Internet. It was also suggested that Mansfield advertise in business
publications.
D. Other - Karl Clemmey recommended that the IDC draft a letter to Bert Cook,
Building Inspector and/or the Zoning Board of Appeals to request their approval for a sign
to be put up thanking/supporting the Industrial Park businesses. Other items that were
discussed by the Commission included changing frontage and/or setback requirements for
properties that are zoned industrial and allowing certain facilities to share parking.
4. Next Meeting
The next IDC meeting will be scheduled for late July.
5. The meeting was adjourned at around 8:40 PM.
