A Phase I, Tier Classification & Phase II Conceptual Scope of Work (SOW) submittal has been filed and is available for review at the MassDEP website on-line file viewer (http://db.state.ma.us/dep/cleanup/sites/search.asp). An unknown volume of # 2 fuel oil was released into the basement and exterior of a residence. A majority of the fuel migrated over a concrete slab in the basement and continued to migrate to the subsurface through foundation wall joints in the slab and an opening in the slab for a municipal water line. The line was not impacted by the release but sandy soil below the slab was affected. Fuel pooled on the groundwater table that is located approximately forty inches below the basement floor slab. Soil was affected below a storage tank vent pipe located below a wooden deck on the exterior of the residence. Fuel was removed from the groundwater table using a vacuum truck. All assessable soil was excavated and removed from the Site. Groundwater was impacted above drinking water levels but no product remains on the groundwater surface. Indoor air appears to be consistent with air at residences that use fuel oil but have not had a release of fuel oil. The Site is classified as Tier I. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me at (978)874-0060. Sincerely, Response Environmental, Inc. Jeffrey A.
