regarding the Plymouth Street Playground.
• Ms. Gurnon stated that the Memorial Park/Plymouth Street Tennis Court crack sealing
was delayed and still not scheduled. They are hoping to get it done in September.
6. New Business:
Ms. Gurnon updated the Commissioners on:
-The Summer Camp has completed 7 weeks of 8 weeks scheduled. It has been
successful because of great staff. There are only half the registrations due to COVID.
-The camp did a "Chalk the Trail" day at the bike path. The campers wrote inspirational
messages and decorated some of the trail.
-Summer Fall Tennis lessons were full.
-The Doubles Tennis Tournament is running the weekend of August 22/23 with great
numbers.
-Women's Pick -Up Soccer League will start late summer and continue into the
November, adding another month due to the late start.
-Fall Yoga is waiting for permission from the YMCA to use the building, hopefully in
September. When it can run, it will be at reduced capacity.
-Fall Basketball and Volleyball are on hold as the schools do not want outside groups to
use the schools at this time.
-New Program called "Stop and Play" will be run by Mary Sellner and offered to
preschoolers. It will be held at Memorial Park and South Common, twice at each
location. It is being offered to give preschoolers an opportunity to play together safely.
-Dog Training is starting with a new instructor on Tuesday, September 8 at Memorial
Park. There are two sessions offered in the evening to allow for lower numbers per
class. Those in attendance can bring their dogs.
-Community Yard Sale will run on Saturday, September 19 if there is interest. There
will need to be a minimum of 6 signed up for it to run.
MS/sg;06/17.doe:5:recwm @ rec: mmord
-The annual Duck Race was cancelled for this year. In its place, the Recreation
Department will be offering a Virtual Great Duck Race. Financial donations were
received from the Mansfield Firefighters Local 1820 ($350) and AFLAC ($250). There
will only be three winners. Due to the pandemic, it was too difficult to ask businesses
for prize donations. Jack O'Neill will do a pre -show montage of the past duck races and
then at the end it will be LIVE when the top 3 ducks are picked from the hundreds of
ducks that are sold.
-The Arts and Crafts show is our big event and probably will not run indoors. The
Recreation Department is considering running it outdoors in October. If run outdoors,
there will be no fee charged for those coming to shop at the fair. The Recreation
Department will reach out to the crafters to see if there is interest in moving outdoors. If
there are crafters not interested, they will be refunded their fee.
-A request was submitted to the Non Profit (lift Fund, by Sherri Gumon, for three signs.
One sign will be posted at the Mansfield Community Garden (one sided), one (two
sided) will be posted at Plymouth Street and the final sign (two sided) will be posted at
Memorial Park. They will the same design as the other signs about town, such as outside
the Mansfield Town Hall.
7. Next Commission Meetin¢: Monday, September 28, 2020 6:00 PM.
To be held at the Town Hall.
8. Motion: By Chris Leard to adjourn. Seconded by Ed Westhaver.
