Motion: By Ed Westhaver to approve the Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes.
Seconded by Christine Leard. Motion passes, 4-0.
3. Visitor: Aaron Salter, MYS Director of Coaching, discussed the idea of adding another turf
field to Plymouth Street. He inquired about clearing the back of Plymouth Street
facility that is undeveloped. Sherri Gurnon stated that adding another turf field
field would be an advantage to the town. Mr. Salter asked what path would need to
be taken to get the plan started, and Ms. Gurnon informed him that the Select Board
will need to vote and approve the project before it can proceed.
4. Facilities:
Sherri Gurnon informed the Recreation Commission of the upcoming use of facilities:
-Mansfield Special Olympics- Brenden Clark/Heather Gage
Plymouth Street Turf, Sundays, September 27-October 25, 4:00-5:00pm
-St. Mary's School Cross Country- Daniel Dulaski;
Lower Memorial Field, Tuesdays, 4:15-5:30pm
No vote was taken as Mr. Dulaski had not confirmed his request.
5. Old Business:
-Plymouth Street Tennis Court crack -sealing has been completed. Memorial Park work will
start next week. Sherri Gurnon will ask them for a quote to paint Pickleball Lines on two of
the courts at Plymouth Street.
-No progress has been made on the Plymouth Street Playground due to a fiscal freeze caused
by the pandemic.
-There is no Program Room update because it is challenging to move indoors during the
pandemic. It has been put on hold.
6. New Business:
Sherri informed the Commission of:
-Mitch Bregnard / Chris Leard terms expire December 31, 2020
-Town Hall re -opened on Monday, September 28, 2020. There is an "ambassador" at the
entrance to take information from those coming into the building for "contact tracing"
purposes. They will check them in, check them out and guide them to department they
will need to conduct their business.
-Little Kicks Soccer is running at 75% capacity due to the pandemic. Normally there is 90
participants, but it was lowered to 60. The program is full. Only l parent can attend and
masks are required.
-Fall Tennis Lessons are full. This is the last outdoor session and it will move indoors to
Brown Billone.
-Doubles Tennis Tournament was completed the 3`d week of August. Gary Belastock ran it,
and it is a great program.
-Women's Pick -Up Soccer League started two weeks ago and has 18 enrollments and can
have up to 25. The registration is ongoing.
-Fall Yoga was to run, but the YMCA wanted a lower number in attendance. With that
number, the program would lose money and therefore was not fiscally sound. The building
belongs to the YMCA and therefore the decision of number of participants lies with them.
-The first Dog Training class was outdoors on the South Common on Wednesday, September
16. Dogs were allowed to attend, The instructor, Jen Durden, was great and is very
knowledgeable. We are hoping to get one more class in before the weather gets colder.
-Community Yard Sale was cancelled due to the COVID regulations regarding gatherings.
-Virtual Duck Race is on for Wednesday, September 30. There has been a lot of interest and
people are excited. Mitch Bregnard will pick the winning ducks at Cable Access and it will
air on Cable Access for all the participants to see if their duck was chosen.
-Sherri Gurnon is looking for volunteers for the Arts & Crafts Show to monitor the access
points onto the South Common. There will be only one entrance into the fair due to the fact
that we have to monitor the number of people coming into the fair. This is necessary because
of restrictions surrounding gatherings due to COVID.
-2020 Non -Profit Gift Fund request was processed today, and we will find out if we were
approved for three signs for our facilities.
7. Next Commission Meetine: Tuesday, October 26, 2020 6:00 PM.
To be held at the Town Hall.
8. Motion: By Linda McCabe to adjourn. Seconded by Christine Leard.
Motion passes, 4-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
