Minutes for August 27, 2020

A meeting of the Mansfield School Committee Return to Hybrid Subcommittee Was opened and
called to order at 7:33 am.
SC Members Present: Linda Fernando
Lauren Scher
Others Present: Teresa Murphy, Superintendent
Michael Connolly, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations
New Business:
First order of business was to vote a chair. Linda Fernando nominated Lauren Scher.
Motion Carried 2 - 0.
Chair Scher noted that there are two main goals. First to develop a clear path toward Hybrid and
second, to clearly communicate to parents. She offered some thoughts on how the metrics should
be developed. First, the committee should identify the process. What tasks need to be completed
for return. Second, who needs to be involved in identifying the metrics and then ensuring their
completion. Third, what are the pressure points that would move us from one plan to another?
Decisions must be made at the district and at the individual school levels.
Superintendent Murphy noted that other Superintendents are grappling with these decisions.
Developing Metrics and identifying the complexities has been challenging. She noted that even to
calla snow day requires many decisions and phone calls leading up to a final decision. She hopes
to rely on state guidance to help us frame our metrics. She referred to the example of running
band camp this summer. There were several meetings involving the principal, band director,
facilities, Amy Donovan Palmer and Christine Dooling to plan and then to monitor the 3 day ( 3
hour per day) camp. The event was a success.
Linda Fernando suggested a written checklist of all the points that are required for opening. High
level categories would be Educational - Technology - Health/Safety - Transportation.
Lauren Scher will reach out to Assistant Superintendent Connolly to discuss what items should be
included on the spreadsheet.
Upcoming meetings in the Superintendent's Office:
Thursday, September 3, 2020 time TBD. We will invite Amy Donovan -Palmer, Justin Desrosiers
and Christine Dooling will be invited to attend.
