Auditor's Meeting, September 3
The Finance Committee discussed their plans and strategies for presenting at the auditor's meeting on
September 3. Mr. Goldberg mentioned that he emailed the auditor the questions that he plans to ask on
September 3, but that he has not received a response back. He said that he was providing the questions
so that the auditor is not caught off guard. Mr. Gazzolo said that at the meeting if they don't have an
answer that they can understand they should not be voting.
Finance Committee Workshop
The Finance Committee discussed the approach to take at the workshop hosted by the Finance
Committee on September 4. Mr. Gazzolo mentioned that he plans to cover several topics in a very brief
period of time; he then plans to pass the meeting over to Mr. Goldberg who plans to present on the idea
of establishing an audit committee. Mr. Goldberg stressed to Mr. Gazzolo that he wanted everyone at the
meeting to have received the packets he prepared and to have reviewed them prior to the meeting
Five Year Forecast
Mr. Gazzolo told the Finance Committee that he had a meeting that morning with Ms. Kearney on the five
year forecast. He mentioned that he did not feel that they needed to work on this anymore until it has
been presented. They decided that there should be a quick glance into this forecast at the September 4
meeting.
Capital
Ms. Lavin told the Finance Committee that after looking at the capital project requests they sent questions
to the school department and Mr. D'Agostino to make sure they differentiated the one time request from
the recurring projects. Mr. Gazzolo mentioned that there are several enterprise account requests mixed
in with the capital projects; they should not be as they are not handled with the same budget. Ms. Lavin
said that she would go through and take out all of the enterprise account requests.
Discussion
Mr. Gazzolo read an email that he received from Mr. D'Agostino regarding the message from the Finance
Committee to the Board of Selectmen. Mr. Gazzolo mentioned that they had not received a response
from the Board of Selectmen. He also mentioned that it as if Mr. D'Agostino misunderstood the original
-
message. The Finance Committee discussed how to proceed with a response to Mr. D'Agostino and a
reminder to the Board of Selectmen that they had not heard back from them. Mr. Goldberg said that the
Finance Committee should point out that this is the second communication to the Board of Selectmen that
they did not receive a response on; he said that by ignoring these communications they are hurting the
town and as a whole the town is not acting responsibly.
