We just had our LCFD NEFFA Food Booth Committee meeting by phone, and was able to confirm we have the volunteers in place and the help we need to move forward with and to do our booth at NEFFA this year with no problem. I wanted a confirmation before really moving forward with this, and now I can say confidently we are doing this! Usually we move our kitchen supplies in on Wednesday, non perishable foods on Thursday with dish washing to have everything ready, and perishable food on Friday. My understanding from years past is that on years like this when it's not school vacation week, we cannot get in until 3pm on Friday at earliest. What that means for us (having gone through this twice before) is that we may not be ready to serve at 6:OOpm when dancers start asking for dinner food. It's going to be a big challenge to have what we normally have ready by then. What the plan in the past has been is that we get in about 1pm, start our cooking so that by 3:OOpm our main cooking is done and then the Lithuanians can get in and start their cooking, so we can all be ready by 6:OOpm to start serving. With everyone needing the warmers and stoves at the same time, and having to bring all our equipment and food at once, we will be delayed. Let me know what is possible for this year. It would good to get in as early as possible. This year, Sam and I have asked the LCFD Board to help coordinate more volunteers to help with the intensive tasks that we do before, during and after NEFFA that we have been doing on our own for the past 17 years. We cannot continue doing all that we do and taking time out of work for getting all this done, so we are reaching out to our dancing community in an effort to find people who can help us take on some of these tasks now and to help continue the future of what we do at NEFFA moving forward. Sam and I will continue to be cooks and on site coordinators, and will work together to organize our menus, shopping lists and pricing for what we do. We need volunteers to help with shopping, the schlepping to and from NEFFA, on site set up and organizing and clean up at the end. Our current plan is to continue our LCFD food booth at NEFFA as is, however, if we are not able to get the help we need for this we may have to change our plans.
