Guest: Nancy Graf and Eileen Berenson Excused: Norma Smith ?6 FEB - A 10' 21 Call to Order: Board Chairman Richard Kelsay opened the meeting at N4 `"HJSEt75 Minutes of the Board Meeting of November 13, 2019: The Board examined the Minutes of the Board Meeting of November 13, 2019. After examining the minutes of said meeting, Joan offered a motion to accept them, seconded by Tom. There was no discussion and the minutes were accepted by a unanimous vote of the board. Estimated Budget Status to Date and Warrants: Jo reported that the 2020-21 budget has been submitted to the Town, otherwise there were no comments. Acceptance of the reports was moved by Lynda and seconded by Joan, then passed by a unanimous vote of the Board. Correspondence: Aside from a Christmas card from Representative Betty Poirier and her family, there was no other correspondence. Director's Report: Jo had help from Treasurer Tom Keogh in renaming and clarifying old line item accounts before the budget was submitted. She is now working on the Formula Fund Grant and plans to include in it the fees associated with our use of the Foxboro YMCA, music and art program supplies, two mobile laptop devices to be used when doing client interviews and brackets to mount new TV screens. It is possible that the Rotary Club may be able to help with the YMCA fees. She is also looking to add a foreign language teacher, upcoming entertainment and programming, and an additional counselor to replace Lynette. Jo also reported: A 50" TV was donated to the COA by the Lucky Charm organization. The Mansfield Town Manager will visit the COA in January. She would like to thank Samsonite for their kind and generous donations of gifts distributed at our Holiday Party. They were outstanding! A beautiful wreath decorated by Nancy Graf was donated to Willow Crossing for their Wreath Stroll. Willow Crossing kindly donated $750.00 to the COA from the proceeds collected that night. Old Business: Regarding our desire to change the name of our senior center, Dick has spoken to the Town Manager. He would like to work with us to find a new name that would accurately reflect our identity. Paula agreed, asking what is it about Mansfield that is unique? A question that could lead us to discover a new name/identity. Treasurer Tom Keogh and Jo are continuing to work on revised financial documents and summary sheets that will accurately and clearly reflect our budget status. They will report to the Board as progress is made. We will begin in earnest in January to promote our initiative to make Mansfield Dementia and Aging Friendly. This will encompass many stakeholders and groups of people in town and require everyone to be on the same page when it comes to providing a safe place for aging citizens to live and conduct business. Dick suggested that the groups we wish to involve watch the video provided by Dementia Friendly Fall River, as a place to start. Tom offered to bring Stop and Shop, especially the pharmacy, onboard, when the time is appropriate. Mary provided a reprint of an email exchange she had with Jan Mutcher, Professor of Gerontology and Director of the Center for Social and Demographic Research on Aging at UMASS Boston. Professor Mutcher cited many resources, including contracting with us to develop our action plan as we move forward. Mary will begin by looking at what the AARP offers for help. Dick has been in touch with Peter Ham, LMHC to help us. We will need to find out what other communities are doing, explore all of the issues, and possibly seek funding to implement this initiative. The tentative first meeting date is Monday, January 27 at 7:00 pm. Location TBD. New Business: It was suggested that the COA be opened up for NFL playoff and possibly Super Bowl games. Tom suggested we put out a signup sheet to determine interest in "Pizza and Patriots." It was noted that the games are often played too late to hold something like this. Jo will look into the possibility of opening up the building on Sundays. Next meeting, January 15. The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 pm, in order that the Board and COA staff could enjoy a holiday party together. The motion to adjourn was made by Lynda and seconded by Paula.
